What a game for the Yankees! I was listening to it on the internet (the game was blacked out for MLB.TV) and when the score became 7-2, I left the computer and sulked around my home. But when watching the Mets-Braves game, I saw the score was 6-7, so I rushed to my computer and listened to the rest. It was the bottom of the 9th, and there was 2 outs, when Robison Cano singled. Then Jeter walked, and Abreu got hit by a pitch. A-Rod was up. Ball. Strike. Strike... GRAND SLAM! 10-7 Yankees! (To quite John Sterling: "The Yankees Win! Thaaaaaaaaa Yaankeees WIIIIIN!)

Here's what we'll tell our kids: He looked like an alien, and threw like a god. He had one pitch -- and with that one pitch, like David with one rock in a slingshot, he could fell any foe. With that one pitch he could escape any danger. With that one pitch he could intimidate any lineup. With that one pitch he won world titles. With that one pitch he pitched his way to the Hall of Fame. With that one pitch he performed surgery. With that one pitch he wrote poems. With that one pitch he sang songs. With that one pitch he saved souls and converted non-believers, and brought peace to the boroughs and joy to the masses. And we will not be exaggerating. ~Eric Neel talking about The Sandman

Second rate? The Braves have almost as good an offense as the Mets, a better starting rotation, and a better bullpen. Oh, and they also had won 14 straight division titles until last year/ I wouldn't say their "second rate", but they had been struggling the last year. _________________ Ninety feet between home plate and first base may be the closest man has ever come to perfection. ~Red Smith
