Buckeyes poised to claim No. 1 ranking

LINK: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070219/ap_on_sp_co_ga_su/bkc_t25_ohio_st_minnesota
AP via Yahoo wrote:
MINNEAPOLIS - The last time Ohio State was No. 1 in the AP men's basketball poll, John Havlicek, Jerry Lucas and a sub named Bob Knight were leading the Buckeyes to the
NCAA championship game.

That was 45 years ago, but after Greg Oden and No. 2 Ohio State breezed to an 85-67 victory over Minnesota on Sunday, Hondo and the General might finally have some company.

Oden had 19 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, Ron Lewis (news, bio, voting record) scored 16 points and Mike Conley Jr. finished with 10 assists and five steals for Ohio State, which is looking for its first No. 1 ranking since 1962.

"Right now it doesn't mean as much as it would at the end of March in the tournament," Conley said. "Regardless of what ranking we are — 1, 2, 3, 4 — it doesn't matter to us. We're trying to get better as a team and hopefully make a run."

...

They defenitely are a strong team. Oden is a force, and the Buckeyes never haven't as good a big man like that in a long time. Combined with a good combination of surprising rookies and veteran talent, I could see them going pretty far this year.

Here's what we'll tell our kids: He looked like an alien, and threw like a god. He had one pitch -- and with that one pitch, like David with one rock in a slingshot, he could fell any foe. With that one pitch he could escape any danger. With that one pitch he could intimidate any lineup. With that one pitch he won world titles. With that one pitch he pitched his way to the Hall of Fame. With that one pitch he performed surgery. With that one pitch he wrote poems. With that one pitch he sang songs. With that one pitch he saved souls and converted non-believers, and brought peace to the boroughs and joy to the masses. And we will not be exaggerating. ~Eric Neel talking about The Sandman

I think that they will be in the final four, although there are some good teams that could end up there.

Well, they made it to the finals along with Florida - all I can do for now is cross my fingers.
